The Beauty of an Album

 There is something special about an album. In today's world, it is easy to focus on individual songs. Streaming services make it incredibly convenient to jump from one track to another, to shuffle playlists, and to discover new artists one song at a time. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Some songs become memorable all on their own and leave a lasting impression after only a few minutes. Albums, however, are different. An album is not simply a collection of songs. At least, I do not think it should be. The best albums feel like journeys. Sometimes they tell obvious stories. Sometimes they do not. Sometimes the songs are connected through themes. Other times they are connected only by the artist's state of mind during the period in which they were created. Every album has its own identity, even when the songs themselves seem very different from one another. That has become something I have thought about quite a bit recently.
