My First Real Concert Experience Happened on the Same Day the Knicks Won It All

June 13, 2026, turned out to be a pretty memorable day for me for more than one reason.

On that day, the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs and won the NBA Championship. The first Knicks championship in a very long time. As a Knicks fan, that alone made the day special.

But on that exact same day, another first happened in my life.

I went to my first real concert.

Now, technically, I've seen live music performances before. Years ago, I saw a cover band playing at a park. And a few years after that, I attended an orchestra performance for a college music class because I had to write an essay about it.

But this was different.

This was my first actual concert experience. The first one I genuinely wanted to go to. The first one I went out of my way to attend because it interested me. Not because it was free. Not because it was for an assignment. Simply because I wanted to experience it.

I saw The Black Crowes, with Southall opening the show and Whiskey Myers performing before The Black Crowes took the stage.

And honestly? The whole thing was fire.

I had never seen any of these bands live before. To be completely honest, I wasn't even very familiar with their music beforehand. But they were in the area, it sounded like something fun to do, and I decided to go for it.

I'm really glad I did.

It was pretty much exactly what you'd expect from a rock concert. There were drinks available, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. I personally stuck with water lol. Some people were vaping. The crowd was cheering, singing along, and just having a great time. At one point, people in the lower levels were even tossing beach balls around through the crowd.

The atmosphere was energetic and fun.

It was one of those experiences that made me think, "Yeah, I get why people enjoy concerts so much."

And honestly, I think what made it even better was that this was something I chose for myself. This wasn't something I stumbled into or had to do. This was something I wanted to experience.

The fact that it happened on a Saturday was also perfect since I didn't have to worry about taking time off from work during the week.

So June 13, 2026, ended up being a day of firsts.

The Knicks won their first championship in decades.

And I had my first real concert experience.

Not a bad way to spend a Saturday.
