The Guitar Solo in Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” Sounds Like a Fucking Chainsaw
Okay, so can we talk about the guitar solo in “Beat It” by Michael Jackson for a second?
Because HOLY FUCKING SHIT.
I swear to God, that guitar solo sounds like somebody took a fucking chainsaw, plugged it into an amplifier, and decided to go absolutely fucking feral with it. And I mean that in the BEST possible way.
The way that guitar just kicks in? The sheer aggression? The distortion? The speed? The way it practically sounds like it's tearing through the damn song? IT'S FUCKING INSANE.
And the thing that makes it even crazier is that this is a Michael Jackson song. You have this incredibly catchy pop-rock track, Michael delivering an iconic performance, and then suddenly the guitar comes in like it has a personal vendetta against every other instrument in the room.
And let's be real here: Eddie Van Halen absolutely went OFF on that solo.
That's the thing I love about it. The guitar isn't just there to add a little flavor to the song. It comes in and practically hijacks the entire fucking track for a moment. It demands your attention. You can't just casually ignore that shit!
And what's even more impressive is how it fits the song. It's aggressive, it's loud, it's wild, and it matches the rebellious energy of “Beat It” perfectly. It doesn't feel like some random guitar solo that was thrown into the song for the hell of it. It feels like the song was BUILT for that moment.
I don't care what genre of music you listen to. You could be into pop, rock, metal, hip-hop, jazz, country, or literally anything else. There is something genuinely incredible about hearing a musician pick up an instrument and absolutely DESTROY it like that.
And Eddie Van Halen did exactly that.
Now, I'm not saying that every guitar solo needs to sound like a chainsaw having an existential crisis. But goddamn, sometimes you need a guitar solo that makes you sit there and think, "WHAT THE FUCK AM I LISTENING TO?"
And the solo in “Beat It” absolutely delivers.
It's one of those moments that reminds me why I love music so much. Sometimes, you don't need to overanalyze anything. You don't need to dissect every note or explain every musical decision. Sometimes, you just need to listen to something and appreciate how fucking AWESOME it sounds.
And that guitar solo?
FUCKING. LEGENDARY.
Rest in peace, Eddie Van Halen. And thank you, Michael Jackson, for giving us one of the most iconic pop-rock songs ever recorded.
Seriously, go listen to “Beat It” again and pay attention to that guitar solo.
Tell me that shit doesn't sound like a chainsaw with a fucking PhD in shredding.
Because I don't know how else to describe it.
And I mean that as the highest compliment possible.
